Oceanside High school senior Cooper Wirkala set some school history last night in the Mariners 86-54 win over Belfast last night.

The 6-foot-4 senior became the first 1,000 point scorer to get all of his points at Oceanside. Remember, Rockland and Georges Valley High Schools combined to become Oceanside back in 2011.

Wirkala scored 24 against Belfast giving him 1,003 for his high school career.

He is averaging almost 27 points a game, along with nine rebounds and four assists per game for the 12-4 Mariners. Oceanside sits as the #4 seed at the moment in Class B North.

Wirkala's coach, Matt Breen, was a 1,000 point scorer for Rockland HS years ago.

"Cooper is so versatile. He can play inside and outside. He can handle the ball and shoot the ball."

Wirkala has committed to play at Colby College in Waterville next year.
