A woman who was accidentally shot in the Shaw's Supermarket parking lot in Bath is the girlfriend of a man who was trying to sell his firearm.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says the victim is 22-year-old Chelsea Jones of Thomaston. She was sitting in the front passenger seat of an SUV Monday afternoon in the supermarket parking lot. Her boyfriend, 23-year-old Dylan Grubbs, also of Thomaston, had driven to the lot to sell his handgun. He was standing outside the SUV, showing the firearm to the prospective buyer, when the gun went off. Jones was shot in the head and remains at Maine Medical Center. There's no word on the severity of her injuries.

Grubbs has been interviewed by police and continues to cooperate with investigators. Also interviewed was the man who was there to buy the handgun. The firearm has been taken to the State Police Crime Lab to be inspected, as Bath and State Police continue to investigate the incident. No charges have been filed.
