America East has selected University of Maine women's basketball player Liz Wood from a list of 8 finalists as the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.Wood becomes the first Black Bear to receive the award and certainly has the numbers to back it up. On the court Wood averaged 14 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals per game last winter while being named the defensive player of the year.

In the classroom she compiled a 3.93 GPA in biology with a concentration in pre-med. The junior was named the 2015 Dean Smith Award winner, is Co-President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and was an America East Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient.

The conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by a group of 18 made up of athletic administrators and NCAA Faculty Athletic Representatives.
