Woodland Holds off Schenck to Cap Class D Semifinal Action

The final game of the day at the Cross Center saw the Woodland boys earn a 63-50 win over Schenck.

Woodland was able to withstand a surge from Schenck, who finished the first half by hitting a half-court shot to bring them within a point before grabbing the lead at the start of the third quarter.

Drew Hayward led the Dragons to victory, scoring 20 points while grabbing five boards, dishing three assists and nabbing three steals.

Woodland will now play for the regional title, Saturday vs. Jonesport-Beals, with the time TBD.

Jonesport-Beals Sends Defending State Champs Packing

The Jonesport-Beals Royals punched their ticket to Championship Saturday with a 46-36 win over Machias.

Despite not scoring until late in the first quarter, Jonesport-Beals used a 15-1 run to close the half and entered the intermission with a 20-12 lead.

It was truly a team effort for the Royals, who's leading scorer, Ryan Alley, had nine points.

Alex Marotta had 16 points and nine rebounds for Machias in the losing effort.

Jonesport-Beals advances to the regional title game with a record of 16-3.

Southern Aroostook Cruises into Regional Finals

The Southern Aroostook Warriors are headed back to the Class D North Finals, where they'll meet Woodland on Saturday after defeating Katahdin, 73-41.

It was a balanced scoring attack for the Warriors, who overwhelmed Katahdin with 16 points from Makaelyn Porter, 14 from Kassidy Mathers, 13 from Kylie Vining and 12 from Sydney Brewer.

Haley Landry scored a game-high 17 points for Katahdin in the losing effort.

Southern Aroostook and Woodland will square off bright and early Saturday at the Cross Center at 9:05 a.m. for the Class D North title.

Woodland Hands DI-Stonington First Loss of Season

The Woodland Dragons on Thursday held off a late charge from the Deer Isle-Stonington girls on a to advance to the Class D regional finals in Bangor on Saturday morning.

Freshman Emily Curtis led the No. 2 Dragons with 24 points in the 54-45 semifinal win over the No. 3 -- and formerly undefeated -- Mariners.

Junior guard Sadie Smith added 19 points for the Dragons and junior Katie Erskine added eight points.

Lilian Gray led the No. 3 Mariners with 19 points, including five three-pointers.

The Mariners made a late run, hitting two three-pointers late, but were unable to close the gap before time expired.

Woodland improves to 16-3. Deer Isle-Stonington ends the season at 17-1.

Woodland will play in the north region title game at 9:05 a.m. on Saturday at the Cross Center.
