One big, bad inning by the usually reliable bullpen cost the Boston Red Sox Friday night. The Yankees scored five runs to come from three runs down to win the game 5-4.

The Sox lead in the AL East drops to 3.5 games.

After Eduardo Rodriguez pitched six shutout innings, Matt Barnes pitched a scoreless 7th inning.

Then trouble.

Addison Reed and Joe Kelly combined to give up five 8th inning runs on five hits(an Aaron Hicks 2-run HR), a hit batter and a wild pitch and two walks.

Yankee closer Aroldis Chapman tried to give the lead back to Boston in the 9th, walking the first three batters. The Sox did score a run on an Andrew Benintendi sac fly but when Eduardo Nunez tried to tag up and go to third, he was gunned down.

Drew Pomeranz faces Luis Severino in today's game two of the three game series.
