The incredible story of the Northeastern Huskies added another chapter Saturday night with a 3-2 over UMass-Lowell for the 2016 Hockey East Championship and the automatic NCAA bid that comes with it.

The Northeastern story is incredible because the team started the season 1-11-2. Since that time, the Huskies have gone 20-1-2.

Perhaps small consolation for UMaine hockey fans but the Black Bears did take Northeastern to overtime twice in the first round of the playoffs before losing 3-2 and 4-3.

The HE title is the school's first since 1988 and as the #6 seed in the league tournament, Northeastern becomes the lowest seed to win the title.

NOTE:  USCHO is projecting that six Hockey East teams will make the NCAA 16-team field...Northeastern, Providence, BC, UMass Lowell, BU and Notre Dame.

The NCAA Selection Show is at noon and aired on ESPNU.
