The next time Husson University coach Mary 'Kissy' Walker leads her Eagles to another win, the longtime coach will join the exclusive 500 win club. It could happen as early as Friday night or Saturday when the Eagles play SUNY-Canton.

In her 28th year as head coach, Walker's coaching record sits at 499-261.

She already is a member of the Husson Hall of Fame, the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame and the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. Walker is the longest tenured head coach of any sport in Husson University history.

Her teams have made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and working to make it four straight years of making it to the NCAAs this season.

Walker grew up in Augusta and was the first girl to play in the local Little League there.

She played basketball at Cony High School and then was a four year letter winner (1983-1986) for UMaine basketball. Walker was a point guard and captain of the Black Bears.

NOTE: According to the NCAA Record Book, at the start of this 2018-19 season, Walker's 490 wins puts her 35th on the list for most wins in Division III in the nation. Other Maine college coaches with 500+ D-III wins at the start of this season includes former USM coach Gary Fifield (660 wins) and St. Joseph's College coach Mike McDevitt (528 wins). Gavin Kane, who now coaches the UMaine Presque Isle women's team, has 525 wins as a high school coach.
