The Bangor allstars won the District #3 baseball championship Sunday and it was one emotional roller coaster ride along the way. Bangor defeated Bronco/Hermon 8-2 to claim the title. Bangor will be one of the 10 teams playing next month in the Senior League World Series.

Sunday's title match started in late afternoon sunshine and ended under the lights in the rain.

Bronco/Hermon had to win the first championship game and did 7-6 in 10 innings just to force an if necessary game.

Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Bronco/Hermon scored four times to tie the game at 5-5.

The game stayed that way until the top of the 10th when Bangor scored a go ahead run. But in the bottom of the 10th, Bronco/Hermon scored two runs to win it 7-6. A walk-off hit by Matt Leach was the game winner.

That forced a winner-take-all game and Bangor scored an 8-2 victory.

Nick Cowperthwaite pitched the complete game to get the win on the hill. Bangor collected 13 hits and played errorless ball to gain entrance into the SLWS.

Kyle Stevenson had three hits and three steals. Cowperthwaite, Ryan Brookings, Derek Fournier and Joey Moir all had two hits. Fournier drove in three of the eight runs.

The Senior League World Series, featuring the best 15 and 16-year-old players in the world, begins at Mansfield Stadium August 9th. You will hear live coverage of Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket and on 929theticket.com.
