Bangor's Jesse Speirs will start 2016 as a full-time member of the Golf Tour, just a step away from the PGA Tour. Speirs earned his playing card Sunday afternoon after four grueling rounds of competition in Florida.

Speirs last round was a 3-over par 74 but for the tourney he was 5-under par and he finishes in a tie for 14th place.

That 14th place finish allows him to play in every Tour event until there is a second periodic re-order during the season.

Speirs is a 3-time Maine Junior Amateur champion, a winner of the Maine State Amateur champ and a Greater Bangor Open Tourney champion.

He finished 10th at this year's GBO back in July.

Speirs may be the first Mainer to earn full-time status on the Tour.
