Bapst Rallies To Win [SCORES]

The John Bapst Crusaders got off to a rocky start but came back in a big way to beat Waterville 35-28 in a Class C North matchup Friday night.

Two plays and two Bapst penalties put the Purple Panthers on the scoreboard just 35 seconds into the game. Trafton Gilbert scored on an 11 yard run.

The Crusaders answered on the very next play. A 75 yard kick return by Landon St. Peter. A failed PAT made the score 7-6.

Waterville scored the next two TDs and the Panthers defense stiffened. Midway through the second quarter, the Panthers led 21-6.

John Bapst would then score the next four touchdowns. QB Wilson Higgins hooked up with WR Rhett McDonald for TD passes of 63 and 23 yards. Higgins added another TD pass to St. Peter. Max Chadwick scored the fourth TD on a five yard run.

It was 35-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Waterville lost talented running back Anthony Singh to injury after running for 111 yards but the Panthers would add one late touchdown to make the final score 35-28.

Chadwick led a balanced run attack for John Bapst with 47 yards.

The Crusaders improve to 2-1. Waterville drops to 0-3.

NOTE: John Bapst inducted eight individuals to the school Hall of Fame and also inducted the 1964 undefeated state title team. Coach Ken Perrone and many of the players were in attendance.
