Barron’s Bears Host Tourney
The UMaine women's basketball team hosts the 4-team Black Bears Thanksgiving Tournament at the Cross Center in Bangor. Two games Friday then a consolation game and championship game on Saturday afternoon. UMass, William & Mary and Wisconsin-Green Bay make up the field with the Black Bears.
Maine (3-1) plays UMass (2-4) at 5PM Friday. Coach Richard Barron and his Black Bears are off to a good start, the only loss coming at Syracuse. The Bears own a 13-7 record against UMass over the years.
Ashleigh Roberts leads Maine with 16.8PPG and 4.3RPG. She is shooting almost 57% from the field.
Willliam & Mary comes in looking for a first win after an 0-4 start. Wisconsin-Green Bay is 4-1 and looks to be the strongest team in the tourney. The Phoenix made the NCAA tournament a year ago and are picked to win their Horizon League again this year.
The two losers on day one play in the consolation game Saturday. Winners meet for the championship.
