Getty Images The UMaine hockey team got four goals and eight assists from freshman leading to an 8-4 win over UMass.Trailing 1-0 after the first period the Bears exploded for six goals in the second period and added two more in the third. Freshman Cam Brown, Blaine Byron, Josh Henke and Brian Morgan all scored for the Bears who improved to 3-2 on the season. Goalie Martin Ouellette backstopped the UMaine effort making 28 saves in net.

The two wins over the Minutemen are non-conference wins but that can change next week as the Bears travel to UMass for a pair of Hockey East games.
