The UMaine Black Bears play on Alfond Stadium turf for the first time this afternoon while the Husson University Eagles head on the road.

Orono, Maine: Coach Joe Harasymiak and his (0-1) Black Bears play their home opener at 3:30pm vs the (1-0) Bryant University Bulldogs. UMaine is coming off that tough 24-23 loss at New Hampshire last Thursday night.

If history holds it should be a good day for the Black Bears. They are 64-40-7 in home openers and have won three of the last four openers. Maine owns a 4-1 record over Bryant in their first five games vs the Bulldogs.

The Bears will be led by red shirt freshman QB Chris Ferguson who threw three TDs in the UNH game.

Franklin, Mass: The Husson Eagles play in Massachusetts against the newest ECFC member, the Dean College Bulldogs at noon.

Coach Gabby Price and his Eagles are 1-0 after last week's season opening win 20-7 over Union College (NY). Senior tailback John Smith rushed for 142 yards and two TDs. He became the first Husson player to rush for 5,000 yards in a career.

Dean College is playing its season opener.

NOTE: Other Maine college football...Maine Maritime Academy has a bye week...NESCAC games involving Colby, Bowdoin and Bates begins next week...First year program University of New England in Biddeford plays a JV game vs the Husson JV team Sunday at 1pm at Winkin Complex in Bangor.
