The UMaine Black Bears baseball team is two wins away from an America East Conference title and a spot in the NCAA tournament field of 64. Next on the schedule is the Binghamton Bearcats Thursday evening at 8 PM.

Maine got a complete game shutout from pitcher Tommy Lawrence in the opening round. It's the first America East tourney complete game shutout since 2010. The win for Lawrence was his 10th of the season. That ties a school record for wins in a season. Eric White (Brewer HS) hit a 3-run home run as part of a 14 hit attack by the Bears.

Maine is now 35-20 and can be in the conference title championship round with a win over Binghamton.

The tournament is being played for the first time at the Lowell Spinners (Red Sox Single A team) home park in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The NCAA selects its field of 64 tournament teams Monday. The America East winner gets an automatic bid.
