For the second time in three weeks the University of Mane football team will play a step-up game as they travel to Louisiana and face FBS opponent Tulane.Tonights game takes place at the 30,000 seat Yulman stadium where both teams are looking to get their first win of the season. The Bears opened with a loss at Boston College while the Green Wave have lost at Duke and Georgia Tech by a combined score of 102-17.

Maine struggled to run the ball in their opener but will have starting running back Nigel Beckford in the lineup after missing the BC while serving a one game suspension for a off-season violation of team rules.

This will be the first meeting between the Black Bears and Green Wave and first-ever trip to Louisiana. Maine enters has a record of 31-42-3 against teams from the American Athletic Conference (31-39-3, UConn; 0-2 Central Florida; 0-1 East Carolina).

Winning these step-up games is difficult but the Bears have shown it is not impossible. In 2004 they won at Mississippi State and two years ago beat UMass. Their record against FBS teams is 2-13 all time.
