Black Bears Opener Tonight

Coach Richard Barron and his UMaine women's basketball team open the season - for real tonight at the Cross Center in Bangor. After picking up wins over New Brunswick and USM in tune-up games, the first D-1 game is against the North Dakota State Bison.

That school has the #1 football team in the nation in FCS and their women's basketball program is coming off a 10-19 season and have been picked to finish 8th in their Summit League.

Maine is coming of a 4-24 a year ago and have been picked near the bottom of America East in pre-season polls.

This one should give alittle more indication of how good this UM team could be this year.
