The UMaine hockey teams sets a little history today when they play a countable NCAA hockey game in Belfast...that's Belfast, Ireland.

The Black Bears will play today and tomorrow in the 'Friendship Four Tournament' in Irleand. It's the third year for this event that is part of a Boston-Belfast agreement...

"The Friendship Four Tournament celebrates the Boston/Belfast Sister city agreement by helping to foster stronger cultural, economic, and academic partnerships between Northern Ireland and America. Sport has the ability to unite communities and provide a conduit to revitalise the deep and broad cultural ties between America and Northern Ireland"

In 2015 the UMass Lowell Riverhawks won the tourney championship over Brown, Northeastern and Colgate.

Last year Vertmont won the Belpot Trophy over UMass, Quinnipiac and St. Lawrrence.

The Black Bears enter the tourney at 4-6. Providence is ranked #10 in the USCHO national poll at 7-4-1.

Clarkson and RPI are ECAC teams. Clarkson is currently ranked #5 nationally at 10--1 while RPI is 2-7-3.
