The UMaine hockey team has a big test this weekend with two of the top 20 teams in the nation coming to Alfond. They failed the first test in a 2-0 loss to #6 UMass Lowell.All the scoring took place in the first period with Adam Chapie netting both goals for the River Hawks. The first came 8:38 into the period when Chapie fired a rebound past Black Bear goalie Matt Morris to tally the only score they would need. UMass Lowell went on the powerplay and scored less than two minutes later on the second goal of the game by Chapie.

The goalies took over form there with the River Hawks Kevin Boyle stopping all 24 shots he faced. Morris stopped 40 shots as UMass Lowell out shot Maine 42-24.

The River Hawks improve to 15-4-3 overall while UMaine drops to 7-15-1 overall and 2-7 in Hockey East. The Bears will get Saturday to regroup before playing Boston College Sunday afternoon. The Eagles will come in as the #17 team in the nation.
