Defending champion Jack Wyman from Portland and 131 other top Maine amateur golfers tee it up at Belgrade Lakes Golf Club Tuesday for round one of the 99th Maine Amateur Championship.

The course opened in 1999 and has been listed among the best public courses in the country and has been ranked #1 in Maine during its 19 year history.

It is the first time Belgrade Lakes has hosted the Maine Amateur.

While Wyman is the guy who took home the trophy last year, there are plenty of past champions in the field. 13-time winner Mark Plummer from Augusta, thrree-time champ Ricky Jones (Samoset), John Hayes IV (Sable Oaks) and Andrew Slattery (Martindale) are all in the field.

Several members of the Husson University golf team that played in the NCAA tournament in May are in the field - Gavin and Eric Dugas, along with Daulton Wickenden.

Four-time high school champ Logan Thompson from Mattanawcook Academy and Camden High School's Cole Anderson, who played in the U.S. Amateur in California are in the tourney.

It's a three day tournament with the low 40 scores and ties making the cut after two rounds.
