One person was killed in an accident caused by a driver who failed to stop for a stop sign. Several others were injured in the crash.

State Troopers responded just after 9:00 Friday night to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 161, the West Road, and Lake Street in the town of Stockholm. Lori Levesque was driving southbound in an SUV with her passengers, 24-year-old Jessie Bouchard of Fort Kent, Justin Davis of Fort Kent, and a 2-year-old child. The other driver, Amanda Ouellette, age 19 of Fort Kent, was traveling west on Lake Street in another SUV with her passenger, Alyssa Ouellette, age 23 of Fort Kent.

As Ouellette was approaching the intersection, she didn't notice the stop sign at Lake Street, and drove through it, striking the side of Levesque's SUV. The impact caused Levesque's vehicle to skid off the opposite side of the road, into the ditch, and roll onto the passenger side. Levesque's passenger, Jessie Bouchard, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. She and her other passengers were all taken to Cary Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Oullette and her passenger were also taken to the hospital, and were treated and released.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
