College Hoops: Bears Fall To Sacred Heart
After 26 lead changes and 10 ties, Sacred Heart University finally beat the UMaine men's basketball team 69-68 in overtime Sunday afternoon at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
The game was part of the Naismith Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament.
The loss drops the Black Bears to 0-4. Sacred Heart is now 1-3.
How close was it between the two teams? Both teams scored 35 points in the first half. Both teams scored 24 points in the second half.
The Pioneers scored 10 points in OT, Maine scored 9.
Two Aaron Calixte free throws with eight seconds left in overtime pulled the Bears within a point. After Maine committed a foul, Sacred Heart missed the free throw. The Black Bears got the rebound but a long thee-pointer was blocked and the game was over.
Ilker Er scored 20 to lead Maine. Calixte added 18.
The Bears play their first home game at the Cross Center Wednesday night vs Boston University.
College Women's Hoops - Williams 72 Husson 54: Coach Kissy Walker's Eagles fell to 0-2 with a loss at Williams College in Massachusetts Sunday afternoon. A 14-0 spurt by Williams at the start of the second half did in the Eagles...Kenzie Worcester had 22 points to lead Husson...The Eagles host Thomas College November 28th for their home opener.
