A tough night for UMaine's two basketball teams. The men's team played it first America East Conference game at the Expo in Portland and lost to Vermont. The women's dropped its out-of-conference game at Yale.

In the men's game, the Black Bears and Catamounts played a close first half. Vermont had a 28-26 lead but the Catamounts scored 40 second half points to win going away 68-54.

Vermont shot 55% from the field while Maine shot just 39%. The Catamounts outscored the Bears 40-18 in the paint.

Maine falls to 1-12 (0-1) and Vermont improves to 5-8 (1-0).

 

In the women's game, Maine lost its final non-conference game 57-55.

Tamara Simpson made a layup with 10-seconds left to win it for Yale. A last second jumper by Maine's Bella Swan fell off the makr.

Nyasha Sarju came off the bench to lead Yale is scoring with 18.

Sigi Koizar led Maine with 14.

Yale is now 5-8. The Black Bears have lost two in a row and fall to 8-6.

 

Husson women's basketball scored an overtime win at the University of Southern Maine. Coach Kissy Walker's Eagles won 79-77.

The Eagles had five players in double digit scoring, Chandler Guerrette led with 21.

Megan Pelletier scored 33 for the Huskies.

Husson now with a 5-4 record, USM is 6-6.
