Cony’s First Title, A Fitzy Next?

Cony HS quarterback Ben Lucas and two southern Maine players make up the list of finalists for the Fitzpatrick Trophy, awarded to the state's top high school football player. Portland's Justin Zukowski and Kennebunk's Nicco DeLorenzo are the other finalists.

The 43rd Fitzy will be handed out on January 19th at a banquet in Portland.

Lucas led his Cony Rams to the state championship in Class B. He threw 41 touchdowns and over 3,000 yards.

DeLorenzo of Kennebunk played against Lucas in that state title game. He scored 21 touchdowns and rushed for over 1,400 yards. He also played linebacker.

Zukowski scored 27 touchdowns and rushed for over 1,600 yards for the Portland Bulldogs.

MDI running back Teagan Candage was the other eastern Maine area player among the semi-final list of 12 that got narrowed down to three.
