Defending national champion Union came to Alfond Arena Friday night and pitched a shutout over the Maine Black Bears 3-0. The Dutchmen scored a gift first period goal, scored early in the third period and added an empty netter.

The win puts Union at 3-0. The Black Bears fall to 0-3. Attendance at Alfond was 4,895.

Just over six minutes into the game Union's Mike Vecchione was dumping the puck in on Maine goalie Matt Morris. It broke off his glove and trickled into the net to give the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead.

That score held up until the third period goals.

Union outshot Maine 32-29.

The Black Bears have scored three goals total in their first three games.

The teams play game two of the weekend series tonight.
