Dexter Stops 31 Year Losing Streak Vs Foxcroft
Dexter's long 31 year losing streak to rival Foxcroft Academy is over after a 27-21 overtime thriller victory Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers last win over the Ponies came back in 1988.
Foxcroft's 21-14 lead ended on the first play of the fourth quarter. Dexter's Tyler Chapman scored on a 55-yard run and the LTC game was tied 21-21.
It stayed that way through regulation and then on the first possession of overtime, Tigers QB Logan Perkins scored on a one yard run to make it 27-21.
The game, and losing streak, ended when Chapman intercepted a fourth down pass by the Ponies.
The win puts Dexter at 5-1. The Tigers only loss came at Bucksport.
Foxcroft drops to 3-3.
NOTE: Back in 1988 there was no Class D in Maine football. Dexter and Foxcroft were playing in Class C. The Tigers were state champions in 1987 and then lost in the state game to Madison in the 1988.
