The Ellsworth Eagles took an early lead and withstood a 2nd Half charge by the Hermon Hawks and escaped with a 46-40 win over Hermon on Wednesday, December 10th

Photo Chris Popper Townsquare Media[/caption]Things started slowly for bother teams, and Bruce St. Peter from Ellsworth picked up two quick fouls with 6:20 left in the 1st Quarter, and Joe Plummer from Hermon sank 2 free throws and Hermon took a 2-0 lead. Derek Look scored 6 points in the 1st Quarter and Mitchell Domagala hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, and Ellsworth took a 13-7 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter.

In the 2nd Quarter, Hermon's Donte Bennett scored two quick baskets in the first 1:30 and Ellsworth led 13-9. Ellsworth then went on a 14-0 run and held Hermon scoreless until Tyler Benton hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Bryce Harmon had 4 points in the quarter for Ellsworth, Alex Braley had a 3-pointer and Nick Bagley had a 3-pointer as well. Look had 4 more points. Ellsworth led at the half 27-14.

In the 3rd Quarter Hermon went on a 13-0 run, and with 1:18 left in the 3rd Quarter the score was tied at 27-27. With 35 seconds left in the 3rd Ellsworth's Mitchell Domagala swished a 3-pointer, and then Harmon stole the ball and scored and the 3rd Quarter ended with Ellsworth up 32-29.

In the 4th Quarter Hermon's Bennet went 2-2 from the free throw line and with 6:50 left in the game Ellsworth led 32-21. Ellsworth's Cooper Henderson went 1-2 from the free throw line and Ellsworth was up 33-31 with 5:47 left. Joe Plummer scored and with 4:49 left in the game, the score was tied at 33-33. Henderson sank a jumper and then went 2-2 from the free throw line and with 4:05 left Ellsworth was up 37-33. Plummer went 1-2 from the free throw line and then Harmon went 1-2 for Ellsworth and with 2:52 left Ellsworth was up 38-35. Ellsworth's Nick Bagley sank 2 free throws, and then Harmon went 1-2, and with 1:21 left Ellsworth was up 41-37. Hermon's Tyler Beaton sank a basket, and then Domagala and Look each sank 2 free throws, and with 28.7 seconds left in the game, Ellsworth was up 44-37. Plummer sank a 3-pointer and Look answered with a 2 pointer to give Ellsworth the victory.

Derek Look had 14 points for Ellsworth, and the Eagles went 14-21 from the free throw line in the game, including going 10-14 in the 4th Quarter. Joe Plummer had 17 points for Hermon, and the Hawks shot 11-14 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth improves to 2-0 on the season, and next plays host to John Bapst on Saturday night, December 13th at 7 PM in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio. Hermon is now 0-1, and next plays in Bar Harbor on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 against the MDI Trojans, in a game that will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio.
