This week’s candidates for the McDonald's High School Athlete of the Week all came from the gridiron after standout performances over the weekend.

In a close vote, MCI's Willie Moss took home the honor with 37 percent of the vote. Congratulations!

Moss helped the Huskies improve to 2-0 on the season with a 67-0 win over Orono. Moss only played the first two quarters and rushed for 148 yards on 11 carries and scored 3 touchdowns.

Moss just beat out Hampden's Tommy Farrar, who was instrumental in the Broncos 40-8 win over Nokomis and had a hand in every touchdown. Farrar threw for 247 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 2 touchdowns.

And special recognition goes to the Ellsworth HIgh School Football Team, who as a whole was on the ballot after posting its first win since the program returned to varsity status four years ago. Until the win over Washington Academy on Saturday, you have to go back to 1955 to find the last win for Ellsworth High School football.
