The Ellsworth Boys defeated the Sumner Tigers 67-60 in a game played Friday afternoon, January 30th. The game was originally scheduled to be played at 7 PM, but was rescheduled to 4:30 PM and then to 3 PM because of the snowstorm. It was delayed about 15 minutes from the 3 PM start as the referees had difficulty getting to the gym.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 10-8 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Bruce St. Peter had 5 points, Alex Braley had a 3-pointer and Cooper Henderson had 2 points for the Eagles. Joey Lamoureux had 2 3-pointers for 6 points and Max Eklund had 2 points for Sumner.

At the end of the 1st Half, Ellsworth led 29-23. Braley had 2 3-pointers for Ellsworth, Bagley had 5 points, including a 3-pointer, Mitchell Domagala had 2 points, St. Peter had 2 points and Derek Look had 2 points, as did Conor Maguire. For Sumner, Shawn Walsh had 5 points, Eklund had 5 points including a 3-pointer and Lamoureux had 5 points including another 3-pointer for Sumner.

In the 3rd Quarter, Ellsworth had as much as a 17 point lead, but Sumner clawed their way back, and Ellsworth led 45-39 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.  Look had 4 points, Henderson 5 points, St. Peter 3 points, Domagala and Bagley 2 points each for Ellsworth. For Sumner Sam Smith had 9 points in the quarter, including a 3-pointer, Eklund 5 points including a 3-pointer and Walsh 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter, Sumner got as close as 3 points and were forced to foul, and Ellsworth converted from the free throw line, going 13-19 in the 4th Quarter. Bagley had 12 points for Ellsworth including a 3-pointer. Bryce Harmon went 6-6 from the free throw line, Braley had 3 points and Hernderson had 1 point for Ellsworth.  For Sumner, Smith had 8 points, including 2 3-pointers, Eklund had 4 points, Lamoureux had a 3-pointer,. Tyler Bunker had 3 points and Issaic Christensen had 3 points.

Ellsworth was led by Nick Bagley with 19 points, Alex Braley had 12 points and Bruce St. Peter had 10 points. Ellsworth was 20-28 from the free throw line.

Sumner was led by Sam Smith with 17 points, Max Eklund had 16 points and Joey Lamoureux had 14 points. Sumner was 9-19 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth is now 10-5. Their remaining 3 games are at the Cross Center against John Bapst on Monday, February 2nd at 5:30 PM, at home against Hermon on Tuesday, February 3rd at 7 PM and then against MDI on Thursday February 5th at 7 PM. All three games will be on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio

Sumner is now 7-10 and play host to Washington Academy on Monday February 2nd at 7 PM. Sumner will need to win that game to get into the playoffs.
