Former University of Maine tight end and Enfield native Matt Mulligan is now a free agent after getting released by the Chicago Bears Tuesday.The move came following the Bears Sunday night win over the San Francisco 49ers in which Mulligan played as the number two tight end on the depth chart. Chicago Head Coach Mark Trestman released three players citing a need to add more diversity to their offense. Mulligan played in both games this season for the Bears but did not have a catch or target in those games.

Mulligan who has carved out a career as a blocking specialist has 16 receptions for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns in his 6 NFL seasons. One of those touchdowns came with the New England Patriots where he spent last season.

With his release Mulligan is now free to sign with any team.
