State Police say four people were killed in a head-on collision early Monday morning. One person survived the accident and was taken to a local hospital.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the accident happened just after 10 o'clock Monday morning about 15 miles north of Caribou. Troopers say a car and an SUV collided head-on along Route 161, in area known as Rainbow Cove in Township 16-Range 4.

Four people were killed in the accident. One person survived and has been taken to Cary Medical Center in Caribou. Route 161 has been closed since about 10:20 while police work to reconstruct the accident and clear the scene.
