The Hermon Hawks came into the Cross Insurance Center Friday and upset the No. 2 MDI Trojans in the second Class B girls quarterfinal of the night.

The young Hermon team, the No. 7 seed in the tournament, played a steady game against the Trojans, finishing off MDI in a 49-39 win.

The Trojans were without several of their key players on Friday. Senior forward Keely McConomy broke her finger in practice on Tuesday. Sierra Tapley has been out most of the year with a torn ACL, and senior Kelsey Shaw fouled out with about 3:20 minutes left to go in the contest before finishing with 13 points.

Hermon was led by junior forward Emi Higgins who played well in the paint against Shaw and finished with 15 points. Higgins was named McDonald's Player of the Game.

Lauren Plissey and Bryanne Crouse each added 9 points for the Hawks.

Hermon will play Presque Isle in a semifinal game at 2:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
