Jimmy Howard has quite a New Year's Day planned. First playing an NHL outdoors in front of 110,000 people and then after the game, likely to be named to the USA Olympic hockey team. Not a bad start to 2014 for the former UMaine Black Bear.

Howard had been sidelined with a knee injury for the past three weeks but returned to play Monday night and is expected to play today at the Winter Classic Outdoor Game at Michigan Stadium.

Following the game, the Olympic team will be announced and according to reports in Detroit, Howard will be one of three goalies heading to Sochi, Russia next month for the winter games.
