Dave Portnoy’s Favorite Pizza Spot in Maine Revealed

Barstool Sports’ founder and sole owner has reviewed thousands of pizzas, including several right here in Maine—but what’s his favorite?

If anyone could be called a true pizza expert, it’s Barstool’s Dave Portnoy—he’s reviewed thousands of slices across the country. While we always encourage folks to try the pizza for themselves, with that much experience under his belt, it’s hard not to trust his opinion.

Well, having said all that, for those who may not know why Dave Portnoy has reviewed so many pizzas, let’s clear that up.

Dave Portnoy set out to review one pizza place a day until he’s tried them all, turning it into a daily tradition known as ‘One Bite Pizza Reviews.’ With thousands of videos uploaded on weekdays over the years, his mission has made him one of the most experienced pizza reviewers out there.

Now that we’ve got that sorted out, which pizza chain or restaurant in Maine received the highest ‘One Bite’ rating in our state?

According to Dave Portnoy’s One Bite Pizza Reviews, Monte's Fine Foods—which he reviewed in 2023, with the video uploaded to YouTube on September 15th, 2023—is, to date, the highest-rated Maine pizzeria with a score of 8.4.

Monte’s Fine Foods, located at 788 Washington Avenue in Portland, was also the first place in Maine that Dave Portnoy reviewed for his One Bite Pizza series.

Just don’t confuse it with the only pizzeria he’s ever given a perfect 10 to—that one’s in Lynn, Massachusetts.

And there you have it! As of July 30th, 2025, Monte’s Fine Foods is Dave Portnoy’s top-ranked pizza spot in our Pine Tree State.
