Ellsworth Rallies From 14 Points Down at the Half to Beat Orono 47-38 [STATS]
After being outscored 14-2 in the 2nd Quarter, Ellsworth was down 27-13 at the end of the 1st Half and in danger of being blown out. But the Eagles outscored Orono 35-10 in the 2nd Half to come away with a 47-38 win on Friday night, January 31st in Ellsworth.
Orono led 13-11 at the end of the 1st Quarter and 27-13 at the end of the 1st Half. Ellsworth only scored 2 points in the 2nd Quarter, that coming from Connor McDonald with 58 seconds left. Ellsworth tied the game at 29-29 with 3:14 left in the 3rd Quarter and then never trailed, leading 36-34 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. The Eagles were up 36-31 when Bergon Sodenberg hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Ellsworth was led by Dawson Curtis who had 14 points with 4 3-pointers, 2 in the 1st Quarter and 2 in the 3rd Quarter. Brayden King, held to just 1 point in the 1st Half, finished with 9 points, including a 3-pointer. Hollis Grindal had 8 2nd Half points. The Eagles were7-11 from the free throw line.
Orono was led by Bergen Sodenberg with 14 points, including 4 3-pointers. Matt Allen had 12 points, with 2 3-pointers. Brady Hewes had 2 3-pointers. The Red Riots were 1-2 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth is now 14-2. They play at Bucksport on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m and then close out the season on Wednesday, February 5th at 7 p.m. at home against MDI.
