Six Flags New England Adding Unique Quantum Accelerator Coaster
AGAWAM (WBSM) — Six Flags New England is preparing to unveil its latest roller coaster, the Quantum Accelerator, promising a family-friendly thrill ride for coaster lovers of all levels.
It will be New England’s first “dual-launch straddle coaster,” meaning you actually straddle the seat.
Sydney Snow, Regional Manager of Public Relations for Six Flags New England, joined WBSM’s Tim Weisberg Show to discuss the Quantum Accelerator and its unique design.
“Riders will be on a hoverbike. Think of it riding like a motorcycle,” she said. “That’s something unique to our park, but really a lot of parks.”
Snow said it will be Six Flags New England’s first new roller coaster since The Joker opened in 2017.
“This really is going to be a coaster for everyone,” she said, noting the height requirement to ride it is just 48 inches, or four feet tall. “From some of our newer riders to our experienced riders, everyone is going to love this coaster.”
What Can Riders Expect From Six Flags’ Quantum Accelerator
After launching out of the station at 30 miles per hour, riders will reach speeds of up to 45 miles per hour from a second launch as the coaster twists and turns its way through over 2,600 feet of track.
“It’s exciting. It doesn’t go upside down, but goes 45 mph and riders are going to hug the ground as they tilt over 90 degree turns, and we even have a little bit of a drop involved, too,” Snow said.
The Quantum Accelerator has “high thrill features” such as a “59-foot airtime hill, overbanked turns, and high-speed turnaround,” according to the ride description. Snow said riders will “experience 11 moments of air time, so that feeling of weightlessness as you’re speeding around the track.”
With a ride duration of two minutes and 14 seconds, it’s also one of the longest rides in the park.

Where Is the Quantum Accelerator Located at Six Flags?
The Quantum Accelerator is part of the park’s Crackaxle Canyon area, so it has Western-steampunk vibes.
Other attractions in Crackaxle Canyon include the Stampede Bumper Cars, Houdini – The Great Escape and Rock n’ Rodeo.

Is There Anything Else New to Six Flags New England This Season?
Snow said that in addition to some new experiences around the park, Six Flags New England just made “the largest investment ever” into its food and beverage services.
“We hired an executive chef and he’s been hard at work, really kind of elevating our food,” she said. “So we still have all of our favorites, but he’s been working hard on new fresh ingredients and giving it a lot more pop of flavor that we think guests are really going to be excited about.”
When Does the Quantum Accelerator Open?
The Quantum Accelerator is expected to open in early summer. Six Flags New England itself is currently running on weekend operation on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and will begin daily operations on June 11. Snow suggests purchasing tickets online ahead of your visit.
