James Madison University has fired its football coach Mickey Matthews just two days after completing his 15th season has head coach. It's the second CAA coach to be fired, Rhode Island fired Joe Trainer two week ago.

JMU finished 6-6 this year and out of the playoffs for the fourth time in the last five seasons. In 15 seasons Matthews led the Dukes to a 109-71 record and a national championship in 2004. He is a two time winner of the Eddie Robinson coach of the year award.

Matthews had one year remaining on his contract.

There is much speculation that Jame Madison wants to move up to FBS football. Athletic director Jeff Bourne would only say the school will begin a national search for a new coach.
