The University of Maine baseball team scored early but did not have enough to get past #1 seed Stony Brook in a 4-1 loss in the America East Tourney opener.Scott Heath's rbi single in the top of the first inning provided the only run of the day for the Brears who had 8 hits and struck out 6 times against Seawolves starter Frankie Vanderka.

Maine starter Tommy Lawrence went the distance in what was a very good performance despite the loss. Lawrence allowed 9 hits and struck out 7 in what turned out to be his 5th loss of the season. Stony Brook never scored more than one run in any inning but was aided by 2 UMaine errors.

The Bears will face Binghamton in a losers bracket game today at 2pm. Maine went 1-2 against the Bearcats in the regular season.
