UMaine hockey lost in Vermont Saturday night 3-0 and in the process fell out of the Hockey East playoff picture...at least for the moment.

Catamount freshman goalie Brody Hoffman got the shutout, stoppong all 19 Maine shots. Kyle Reynolds scored 2 goals for Vermont.

The Black Bears fall to 8-15-5 overall and most importantly 4-10-5 in HE games. That means Maine is now in 9th place in the standings with only the top 9 making the playoffs. If Maine and Vermont were to end in a tie, Vermont gets the tie-breaker because the Catamounts won 2 of the 3 games against Maine.

8 games remain on the schedule. The Bears will host Boston University this weekend.
