The Maine Women's Basketball Team fell to Virginia Commonwealth University 81-77 on Friday night, November 14th in Richmond.

Maine led 19-12 at the end of the 1st Quarter, and clung to a 32-30 lead at the end of the 1st Half, after VCU closed out the Half with a 8-0 run. VCU outscored Maine 30-18 in the 3rd Quarter to lead 60-50. Maine closed the lead to 3 a couple of times in the 4th Quarter but couldn't get any closer.

Maine had 3 players in double figures. Kaliyah Sain had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Black Bears in both categories. Adrianna Smith finished with 22 points and Asta Blauenfeldt had 17 points.

Maine shot 47 percent from the field, going 31-66. They were 11-30 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Black Bears only got to the free throw line 4 times, but were a perfect 4-4.

Maine and VCU each had 34 rebounds. Maine had 36 points in the paint, compared to VCU's 30. Maine turned the ball over 19 times while VCU had 17 turnovers.

VCU was led by Katarina Knezevic with 19 points, and had 4 players in double figures. They shot 47.5 percent from the field and were 7-19 from beyond the 3-point arc and 16-20 from the free throw line.

VCU is now 2-1. Maine is 0-3.
