Former Bangor High School standout Matthew Cosgrove has decided to leave the UMaine football program according to head coach Joe Harasymiak.

Cosgrove, who is the son of former Black Bear coach Jack Cosgrove, has elected to pursue other opportunities at the Division II or Division III level.

When reached for comment, Harasymiak said Cosgrove was looking for other opportunities in football outside of UMaine and that he and the coaching staff would help anyway possible with his transition to another team.

Cosgrove has not seen any game action since joining the Black Bears in 2013.  He redshirted his first year at UMaine and suffered an injury during the 2014 season.  He was the captain for Bangor during his high school career and was listed as a First-Team All-Conference wide receiver and a Second Team All-Conference defensive back.  Cosgrove also helped lead the Rams to a 2010 Eastern Maine Championship and a 2011 Eastern Maine Championship game appearance.

Requests to talk with Cosgrove were not returned at the time of publication.  Updates will be provided as they become available.
