Heat and humidity forced runners to labor in an effort to reach the finish line but it was Erik McCarthy and Sarah Mulcahy who managed to cross first in the Bangor Labor Day Race.McCarthy of Old Town finished the 5 mile race in a time of 26:13 which was 7 seconds quicker than Adam Goode of Bangor and 1:17 ahead of Matt Homich who rounded out the top three.

Mulcahy finished 10th overall and was the top female finisher with a time of 30:29. The runner from Calais beat second place finisher Tracy Guerrette by three minutes and seven seconds. The former UMaine women's basketball player and assistant coach had a finishing time of 33:36.Lisa Kingsbury finished third in the women's division at 36:33.
