Just days after turning 21-years-old, Maine golfer Reece McFarlane win the 89th New England Amateur Championship at Portland Country Club.

He is the first Mainer to win the title since Mark Plummer did it back in 1994.

McFarlane's 4-under par score of 206 was two shots better than Vermont golfer Drake Hull.

McFarlane's ended up winning start to finish but it was anything but easy after heavy rain forced suspension of play back on Tuesday and cut the tourney from 72 holes down to 54.

He played his first round on Wednesday morning and shot a 65.

Late Wednesday, McFarlane started his second round and finished it Thursday morning. He shot a 69.

And then Thursday afternoon McFarlane played his final 18 holes and fired an even par 72.

The 21-year-old lefty plays college golf at UNC-Wilmington.

Maine Amateur champ Jack Wyman finished in a tie for 6th place, shooting an even par tourney score. Bangor's Drew Powell finished in a tie for 21st place at +4. Husson University golfer Gavin Dugas finished tied for 25th with a +6 score.
