The MDI Boys Basketball Team wanted to come out strong against Old Town when they played at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor on Wednesday, January 30th. It was Senior Night, the night when the 9 MDI Seniors would be playing their last regular season home game, and they had memories of their first game against Old Town on January 15 when Old Town led MDI by 15 at half time 39-24, a game that MDI would win in overtime 55-54.

MDI scored first with 7:32 remaining in the 1st Quarter when Isaac Wallace scored his first varsity basket and MDI led 2-0. Keegan McKim went 1-2 from the free throw line and MDI was up 3-0 with 6:06 left. Garrett Libby put Old Town on the scoreboard with 5:31 left, and MDI was up 3-2. Old Town took the lead with 4:51 left when Garvey Melmed scored and Old Town was on top 4-3. MDI then went on a 9-0 run, as Keegan McKim scored, Colin Mooers scored, Ben Walls sank a basket and converted the free throw attempt after being fouled and Mooers scored again and with 1:43 remaining MDI was up 12-4. Rodrigo Zertuche scored for the Coyotes with 30 seconds remaining before Ben Walls finished the scoring, draining a 3 pointer for MDI and at the end of the 1st Quarter MDI led 15-6.

Walls started where he left off in the 2nd Quarter scoring a quick 5 points in under a minute hitting a field goal and a 3 pointer from near the sidelines and MDI was up 20-6 with 7:19 left in the half. Libbey scored for Old Town and then Adam Gray scored for MDI followed by a Jon Phelps 3 pointer and with 6:03 remaining MDI led Old Town 25-8. Cam Archer scored for Old Town with 5:42 left and Andrew Davis answered for MDI and with 5:34 remaining in the half MDI's lead was 17, 27-10. Garvey Melmed went 2-2 from the free throw line for Old Town and Adam Gray went 1-2 from the line for MDI before Cam Archer knocked in a 3 pointer for the Coyotes and with 1:41 left the lead was 7 points, 28-15 with 1:41 left in the half. Eddie Gonnella went 1-2 from the charity stripe for Old Town and then Colin Mooers answered for MDI, sinking two free throws and the lead was back to 14, 30-16. Old Town finished the scoring in the hlf when Libbey scored and Melmed did as well, at the buzzer, and MDI's lead was down to 10 points 30--20 at half time.

Garrett Libbey who had been held to just 6 points in the first half heated up in the 3rd Quarter scoring 12 points in the Quarter., He started with a 2, followed by a 3 pointer and MDI's lead was 30-25 with 5:25 remaining in the 3rd Quarter. Phelps answered for MDI then Libbey went 2-2 from the free throw line and scored another basket, and with 3:57 remaining in the 3rd Quarter, MDI led Old Town by 3 points, 32-29. Abe Philbrook answered for MDI and Adam Gray went 1-2 from the free throw line and with 2:40 remaining in the 3rd Quarter MDI was up top 35-29. Zach Bartlett scored for Old Town with1:23 left followed by a Philbrook 2 pointer, and Jon Phelps went 2-2 from the free throw line and with 9.6 seconds left MDI led 39-31. Garrett Libbey finished the scoring in the Quarter with 3 seconds remaining and the score was MDI up top 39-34.

MDI went on a 7-0 run to start the 4th Quarter.. Abe Philbrook went 1-2 from the free throw line and Andrew Davis scored a basket with 6:16 left followed by a Ben Walls basket with 3:18 left in the game, and then Mooers hit another basket for MDI and with 2:34 remaining

MDI  was up top 46-34. But Old Town wasn't finished,Melmed sank a 3 pointer for Old Town with 2:15 left and the score ws 46-37. Mooers went 2-2 from the free throw line for MDI and Archer hit another 3 pointer for Old Town with 1:50 left, and MDI was up on top 48-40. Keegan McKim made a basket and converted the free throw and MDI was up top 51-40. With 1:31 left Archer's 3 went in for Old Town followed by Brian Dunn going 1-2 from the free throw line and MDI was up 51-44. MDI finished up the scoring with Adam Gray going 2-2 from the free throw line followed by Andrew Dalton going 2-2 as well and the final score was MDI 55 Old Town 44.

With the victory, MDI improves to 13-3 with two remaining games, at Hermon on Wednesday, February 6 and at Ellsworth on Friday, February 8th. Both of those games will be aired on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio. Old Town falls to 9-7 and has two games remaining; Home against John Bapst on the 6th of February and at Washington Academy on Friday, February 8th.

Garrett Libbey led all scorers, with 18 points for Old Town, including 1 3 pointer. MDI was led by Ben Walls with 13 points including 2 3 pointers.
