MDI Upsets Ellsworth 60-56 [PHOTOS]
The MDI Trojans upset the Ellsworth Eagles 60-56 at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor Saturday afternoon, to win their second consecutive game of the season. The Trojans trailed the entire game, until Riley Swanson swished a 3 pointer with 4:39 left in the game to give MDI the lead 51-49, a lead they would not relinquish.
Ellsworth came out and took a early 18-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Bryce Harmon had 6 points for Ellsworth and Nick Bagley had 5 points for the Eagles. Riley Swanson had 4 points in the quarter for MDI.
In the 2nd Quarter, MDI cut the lead by a point, as Ellsworth led at the half 31-24. Bagley added 4 points for Ellsworth, Dylan Kelley had 3 points and Derek Look, Bruce St. Peter and Alex Braley each had 2 points for the Eagles. In the 2nd Quarter Andrew Phelps had 6 points, 2 3-pointers, and Aaron Snurkowski had a 3-pointer for the Trojans.
In the opening minutes of the 3rd Quarter, Ellsworth increased their lead to 11 points, before MDI cut the lead to 6 points, 45-39.Bryce Harmon had 5 points, including a 3-pointer, St. Peter added 4 more points, and Cooper Henderson had 2 points. The Eagles in the Quarter went 1-6 from the free throw liner. MDI's Snurkowski had 4 points, Graham Good had 3 points and Riley Swanson, James O'Donnell and Gus Reeves each added 2 points.
In the 4th Quarter, MDI outscored Ellsworth 21-11. Riley Swanson had 9 points, including 2 3-pointers, Andrew Phelps had 4 points, Snurkowksi had a 3-pointer and O'Donnell had another 2 points. Harmon had 3 points, Derek Look had 3 points and Henderson and Alex Braley each had 2 points for the Eagles.
MDI was led by Riley Swanson with a game high 16 points, Andrew Phelps had 10 points and Aaron Snurkowski had 10 points. Phelps, Snurkowski and Swanson each had 2 3-pointers for the Trojans. MDI went 12-26 from the free throw line and were 6-17 from behind the 3-point arc.
Ellsworth was led by Bryce Harmon with 15 points, Nick Bagley had 9 points and Bruce St. Peter had 9 points. Harmon had 1 3-pointer, and the Eagles were 11-27 from the free throw line and 1-14 from behind the 3-point arc..
MDI is now 2-5 on the season, and will play host to Old Town on Tuesday, January 6th at 7 PM. Ellsworth is now 6-2 and is off until next Friday, January 9th when they play host to Sumner at 7 PM, in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.
