Former UMaine hockey captain and current UDenver coach Jim Montgomery will interview with the NHL's Florida Panthers for their head coaching job.

The Denver Post is reporting that Montgomery will meet with the Panthers soon and that Montgomery is vacationing in Florida with his family after leading his Pioneers to the NCAA national championship earlier in the month.

“In life there are only so many opportunities and you have to listen,” Montgomery said of being wooed by NHL teams. “But it’s going to have to take the perfect situation for me to leave Denver. There is no indication from Florida that I’m they’re No. 1 guy — or No. 2 or No. 3 guy. I’m just going to sit and talk with them.” - Denver PostMontgomery has been at UDenver since 2013.

He helped lead UMaine to a NCAA title in 1993 and went on to play professional hockey for 12 years. Montgomery has won a USHL championship as a coach/GM and now a NCAA title.
