Newcastle, Maine's Bailey Plourde leads a contingent of 27 Mainers competing at the New England Women's Golf Association Championship that begins today at The Woodlands Club in Falmouth.

The tourney is a 54-hole tourney over three days.

Plourde finished her freshman year at Centre College in May, a Division III school in Kentucky. She was named Southern Athletic Association (SAA) First Team All Conference and was named SAA Newcomer of the Year as the top scoring freshman player at the conference tournament.

Plourde was a three-time high school Individual Champion at Lincoln Academy. She finished runner-up to Staci Creech in the past two Maine Women's Amateur Championship tournaments.

Among the other Mainers in the field at the NEWGA Championship - last fall's high school champion Elizabeth Lacognata from Scarborough HS. Erin Holmes from Cumberland who won the NEWGA Junior title last year. She just finished her freshman year at Bucknell University.

NOTE: Abby Spector is the only Maine golfer to win the NEWGA title in the 61 year history of the event. The Waterville native won the championship in 2001.
