A head-on crash Tuesday night killed one person and injured the driver of the car that got hit. The original driver's vehicle was split in two by the impact.

The Waldo County Sheriff's office says 31-year-old Adam Knight of Lincolnville was killed when his vehicle crossed the center line in that town and struck another car. Deputies say the impact of the crash was so great, it split Knight's Volkswagon in half, ejecting him.

The other driver, 58-year-old Priscilla Jones, also of Lincolnville, had to be extricated from her car by rescue crews. Officials say she was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

The investigation into the crash is on-going with police still trying to figure out what caused Knight to drift into the opposite lane.
