On the day when all players needed to report to Red Sox spring training, "Big Papi" David Ortiz arrived at Fort Myers and had a little fun at the expense of Pablo Sandoval.Ortiz was the last player to report and on his way to the club house made reference to the fact that his belly did not grow like Sandoval. In fact, many who witnessed his first workout of the spring commented that he might be in the best shape of his career. Ortiz took his physical at 9am before heading to one of the minor league fields to take some batting practice.

Ortiz is in the final year of his contract, but general manager Ben Cherington indicated that Papi can stay with the team as long as he wants. His deal will pay him $16 million this season and a club option is worth $11 million next season providing he reaches 425 at-bats this year.
