The Patriots will acquire defensive end Michael Bennett in a trade with the Eagles, which cannot be finalized until the new league year begins on Wednesday, according to reports.

According to several reports, the Patriots will send the Eagles a fifth-round pick in next month’s draft for Bennett and a 2020 seventh-round selection.

Bennett has two years left on his current contract, which will pay him $6.2 million and $7 million over the next two seasons.

The 33-year old was very productive last season, tallying 34 tackles, 9 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 16 games for Philadelphia.

Bennett, a three-time Pro Bowler, spent five seasons with the Seahawks before being traded to the Eagles prior to the start of last season.

Additional reports say that Bennett's brother, former Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett, is interested in coming out of retirement to join his brother in New England.

Martellus Bennett announced his retirement after the Patriots released him last March.
