The Red Sox have signed veteran outfielder Andres Torres to a minor league contract. The 36-year-old has played in the big leagues for nine seasons but has not been with a club since 2013.

Torres played for the SF Giants, NY Mets, Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers - a total of 650 major league games.

After becoming a free agent this past winter, he underwent heel surgery.

Torres is a switch hitter with a career batting average of .242. Torres is considered a better righthanded hitter.
